Vera Evensen, age 92, of Milaca, passed away at the Milaca Elim Home on April 25, 2009 from renal failure. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 11:30 AM at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca with Rev. Tom Sahlstrom officiating. A lunch will be served after the service at the Milaca American Legion. Memorials are preferred to the Humane Society and Milaca Food Shelf.

Vera was born August 1, 1916 to Ray and Adena (Anderson) Oskey in Milaca Township, where she attended and graduated from District 29N in 1930. She married Andy H. Evensen at the home of A.T. Tufty, justice of the peace in Milaca. As a couple they lived in and around the Milaca area until 1942 when they purchased a farm in Page Township. She farmed from then until the present, raising six children to help with the farm chores. She worked at Fingerhut in Princeton and Milaca Mills for a number of years before retiring in the early 1970s. She looked forward to spring to see the beef cows and their little calves and she enjoyed watching her flowers come back and bloom. She loved family and neighbors stopping in for visits, soap operas, evening reality shows, making afghans, rugs, slippers and doll dresses. It would be a rare occasion if anyone who visited would leave without a cup of coffee and some of her fine baking and cooking. She loved her three cats and dearly missed her big black lab, Curly.

She is survived by her sons, Dennis of Baxter, Ronald and wife Virginia of Milaca, Arnold and wife Ardelle of Oak Park and Roger and wife Janice of Foreston; daughter-in-law, Mary Evensen of Milaca; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a few fine neighbors and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Sr.; son, Andy Jr; daughter, Darlene; parents, Ray and Adena; brothers, Lloyd and Kenny; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild and recently by her daughter-in-law, Donna.
