Elder Thos. B. Brown, one of the oldest and best citizens of Ray county, has been confined to his bed for several weeks, and is quietly passing away from the busy seenes of this life to his final home beyond the reach of mortal ken. Crowned with the silver tint of four score years he has fought the great fight, and is ready to lay aside his armor. We shall miss him in the battle of life.

DEATH OF THOMAS B. BROWN
We are called upon to-day to record the demise of Elder Thomas B. Brown, one of the early settlers of Ray county, who breathed his last on Wednesday, surrounded by sorrowing relatives and friends. Elder Brown had been a minister of the Old School Babtist for a half century, and was known throughout this section for his piety and benevolence, and now at the advanced age of 85 years he goes to the realms that he loved to dwell upon. He was a soldier of the war of 1812, and though a man of peace shouldered his musket when his country was in peril. His posterity will cherish his memory, and we shall miss him from the walks of life.

Elizabeth is the daughter of TBB's son John Brown, and sister of John D. Brown, who is the father of Ada. The bible was passed down from Ada Brown (TBB's G-GD), to Sarah Jane Bennett Mertz (TBB's GG-GD, Ada's 1st-1 cousin), to Gary Mertz (TBB's GGG-GS). Name of paper and publication dates not shown.
