PENDLETON - Ralph C. Elder Jr., 89, of Pendleton died Friday, April 16, 2010, at his home. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 21 at Skyview Memorial Park in Pendleton.

Mr. Elder was born July 17, 1920, in Pendleton to Ralph C. Elder Sr. and Ione (Morris) Elder. He was raised and educated in Pendleton and graduated from Pendleton High School in 1937. He married Shirley Sloan in 1927 in Ephrata, Wash.

The family made their home in Pendleton and he worked at road construction operating heavy equipment. He worked for Morrison & Knudson Company before he began working for the Umatilla County Road Department. He retired in 1982.

Mr. Elder is survived by son Mike Elder of Pendleton; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley; son Richard Elder; his parents; and two half sisters.
