Dr George Fiske Keesee

Orphaned at an early age, he was raised by Cornelius Crowe. A Richmonder that enlisted with Company B of the 15th Virginia Infantry at age 18. After a year of field service he was assigned to the quartermaster depot in Richmond, where he served the remainder of the war. After the war he studied dentistry, finishing first in his class at the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery. A pioneer of American dentistry, he practiced in Richmond until retiring in 1924. He maintained a youthful mind and was much admired for his character. Keesee was reelected as secretary of the Richmond Randolph Masonic Lodge a record 59 consecutive times. He also served as its Worshipful Master from 1875 to 1879. His papers are in the Special Collections and Archives of the Tompkins-McCaw Library at VCU.
