Funeral services for Marvin Peed, 90, of Butler, will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 pm at Bethel Congregational Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. Mr. Peed passed away on Monday, April 19, 2010 at his residence. He was a member of Bethel Congregational Methodist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years. He served as Butler Fire Chief for 25 years, was president of Peed Brothers from 1948 – 1992 and served as chairman of the board from 1992 – 2010, was a member of Wesley College Board of Education in Florence, MS from 1953 to present. On May 11, 2007 he received an honorary doctorate from Wesley College. Mr. Peed was a former Justice of Peace in Taylor County. He was on the Taylor County Camp Board for 60 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Peed and Ella Brooks Peed, two brothers, Jack and Albert Peed, a sister, Mildred Peed and his former wives, Mary Woodall Peed and Annette Folds Peed.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Gallmon Peed of Butler; son, Bobby (Elaine) Peed of Butler; step-sons, Kyle Folds of Columbus, Tony (Jamie) Albritton of Butler; step-daughter, Charlene (Buster) Byrd of Butler; one brother, Lester (Helen) Peed of Butler; one sister, Bernice (Franklin) McCants of Butler; grandchildren, Carey (Susan) Peed, Terrie (Hollie) Salter, Hallie Ruth Byrd, Taylor Byrd, Tony Albritton, Jr., Carly Albritton of Butler, Dalton Folds of Columbus, Liza (Clay) Neuman of Nashville, TN, Jacqueline (Nate) Newman of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Colby Salter, Hallie Bree Salter, Mary Alex Peed, Bobby Jack Peed, Taylor Salter, Courtney Dews (daughter, Skylar), Mabry Neuman, and Sara Frances Neuman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Congregational Methodist Church, 1516 Thomaston Highway, Butler, GA 31006.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
