Alfonso S. Brunatti, 88, Duncansville, formerly of Bakerton, died Sunday at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.

He was born in Colver, son of the late Oresto and Inocenza (Varoni) Brunatti.

Surviving are two daughters: Sandra Lee Mertens and husband, Jeffrey, of McMurray and Candice James and husband, Timothy, of Duncansville; five grandchildren: Erik Mertens, Tracy Dabkowski, T. Michael James, Sarah James and Alyssa Brunatti-Bassi; five great-grandchildren: Jake and Gabin Dabkowski and Elena, Ryder and Talia Mertens; as well as numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and their families.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Alma Girolami; a son, Timothy; and an infant son, James.

Al was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He retired as a field superintendent with Hyle and Patterson coal preparation plants. He was a member of the Carrolltown American Legion and the Bakerton VFW.

He enjoyed traveling, going to casinos and mastering the computer at age 85.

There will be no public viewing or visitation. Friends will be received from 9:30 to the 10 a.m. funeral Mass Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Holy Name Church, Monsignor Arnold L. Gaus officiating. Entombment in Holy Name Mausoleum, Ebensburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Name Haiti Fund, 500 N. Julian St., Ebensburg, PA 15931, or to a library of your choice in Al's memory.
