Mrs. Portwood

Mrs. Rice Carter Portwood, 82, of 309 Ridgeway St., died at the Heritage at 1 a.m. today, She had been in in ill health for two years. Mrs. Portwood was the former Miss Stella Maude Guy, She was born near Fulton on Aug. 11, 1885, the daughter of John Guy and Virginia (Moore) Guy. She was married to Mr. Portwood April 17, 1904, He died May 13, 1965, The family moved to Columbia from Centralia in 1944. Survivors include two sons. Carl D. Portwood, 916 West Stewart Rd.; Lee Roy Portwood, Alton, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Lando Fautz, 115 Bicknell St. and Mrs. Claude Wilhite, Hallsville; and two grandchildren. She was a member of the Red Top Christian Church. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Robert E. Hodkins, of Red Top Church, at 2 p.m. Saturday at Parker's Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
