Mr. Bailey was born to Arthur and Amanda Miller Bailey in Vancouver, Washington. He moved to Longview, Wash., as a young man, starting his first band during the "Big Band Era".
After serving with the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II, he pursued his dream of music traveling throughout the western United States and Canada playing the piano with his band. He met the former LaVelle Bennett in Baker City and they were married Nov. 17, 1952 in Boise, Idaho.
They renewed vows on their 43rd wedding anniversary at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. They made their home in Baker for a short time before moving to Pendleton, where he worked in a music store and still played with his band.
The family moved to Klamath Falls during the floods in 1964. Mr. Bailey worked for Derby's Music Store, gave private music lessons, and still played in a band. After retiring in 1973, he emjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Bailey was a member of B.P.O.E. Elks, Shriners, Klamath Masonic Lodge, the Musician's Union, and St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was an honorary member of the Leatherneck Club, and Reames Golf and Country Club.
Survivors include his wife; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Tony Fardell, Longview, Wash., Kim and Ken Estes, Klamath Falls; sons and daughter-in-law, Lenn and Cheri Lethlean, Klamath Falls, Gary Leathlean, Waldport; grandchildren, Kara, Kadi and Kory Estes, Randy, William and Gina Tompkins; Christine Lethlean, Charissa Tompkins, Christine Taft and Jason Wells; great-grandchildren, Tianna and Brittnay Lethleasn. He was preceded in death by his son, Benjamin Carl Bailey; brother Benjamin Franklin Bailey; and sisters, Mable Hatch and Margie Spencer.
