Lt. William Henry Myers enlisted 1 August 1861 into the 14th US Infantry, serving through January 1863 (The Peninsula and Chancellorsville). He was then commissioned the 34th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry, serving with that unit through May 1864 in Kentucky. In 1866, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the 38th US Infantry, a black regiment later consolidated with the 24th Infantry.
