Laura Brainard, 95, of 612 South Grand, died Saturday at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

She was born in Fargo, N.D., on Sept. 16, 1879, the daughter of William and Alzina Russell. She came to Montana and the Gallatin area with her parents in a covered wagon as a small girl. She received her education in Bozeman and Gallatin County rural schools.

Mrs. Brainard married W. D. Brainard on April 4, 1897, at Pass Creek, and they lived in the Menard-Maudlow area, where they homesteaded. Brainard died in March, 1949, and Mrs. Brainard then moved to her present home in Bozeman.

She was a member of the Baptist Church. Mrs. Brainard was appointed Montana Mother of the Year in 1959.

She was preceded in death by two daughters.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel. Burial will be in the Sunset Hills Cemetery.
