Enoch Hodson who had been a resident of this county several years died in St. John's hospital in Helena last Saturday. His death will be regretted by many for he was one of the Pioneers of the state. He was born in Marion Co., Indiana, April 8, 1842. As a young man of 18 years he started for the great and almost unknown west and located first at Central City, Col.; from there he came to Montana and arrived in Bannock in the spring of 1863. There he was recognized as a good citizen and was a member of the vigilance committee which bro't order to that section of the country, and rendered life and property safer from the attacks of the bandits of those times. Many years ago he located in Bozeman where he had various interests and was active in business and successful; having a fine ranch and engaging extensively in furnishings ties to the N. P. railway when it was building through that part of the state; he also operated sawmills in this country many years ago. Of late years he has been around Boulder and Elkhorn, prospecting occasionally and a few years ago had a large outfit for hauling ore from the Gray Eagle mine to the railroad.

His wife, two sons and a sister reached Helena from Bozeman a short time before his death, and the sister had not seen him for 44 years and at the time was on a visit to Montana from her home in Kansas. Deceased leaves a wife and four sons who make their home near Bozeman, and the body was taken there for burial, being escorted to the train by a committee from the Society of Pioneers.

Enoch was born the son of Robert Hodson and Martha (Easterling) Hodson. He married Miss Laura A. Thompson on July 23, 1865 at Nelson's Gulch near Helena, Montana. On November 3, 1902, he had just entered the Windsor Hotel Bar in Boulder, Montana, where a quarrel was going on at the time, and he was accidentally struck in the eye by a piece of flying glass which badly cut his eyeball. He was taken to Helena for treatment but blood poisoning had set in, and he ultimately died from its effects.
