Leland Lawson was born near Katy, Texas to I.W. and Amanda Lawson and lived all of his 95 years in the Houston area. He worked in the well drilling industry his whole career, starting with his dad in the oil fields near Houston and then working for Layne Texas Co., a water well drilling company, until his retirement in the early 1980's. Leland and Frankie Lee square and round danced their way across Texas and beyond for over 50 years. He rarely missed a grandchild's activity, whether it was a piano recital for the girls or a football or baseball game for the boys. After his retirement, he most enjoyed his big gardens at the farm and puttering with his potted plants at home. He called Gethsemane Lutheran Church his church home.

He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Wanda West and brother, Don Lawson. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Frankie Lee; his sisters, Dee Lawson and Frances Lawson; his daughters, Ruanne Kuhlmann and husband David; Sharon Gersch and and husband James; six grandchildren: Donna Taylor and husband Charles; Leanne Tomaschesky Tomaszewski and husband Steve; Tim Kuhlmann and wife Karen; Steve Kuhlmann; Michael Kuhlmann and wife Kelly; Chris Kuhlmann and wife Kasey; and nine great grandchildren. The family would like to thank their three angels for their loving care to our parents: Ella Davis, Dennis Powell, and and Mary Chachere.

Funeral services were at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home on Friday, November 14, 2008, with Rev. John Cain, Pastor at of Gethsemane Lutheran Church, officiating.
