Henry Fountain Hatcher was born about 1842 in Patrick County, Virginia. He enlisted 31 Jul 1861 as a Private at Neely's Farm in Mercer County, Virginia (now West Virginia). He enlisted in in Company D, Virginia 8th Cavalry Regiment. And, he served with 17th Regiment, Virginia Cavalry
Company A. He was captured at Moorefield, Virginia, and died of small pox on November 11, 1864 at Camp Chase. On his prison records, Floyd was described as being 6'2", with gray eyes and having dark hair and complexion.
