Civil War veteran (Capt.) He was Honor Guard for the remains of President Lincoln when he laid in state in Philadelphia PA.

He was commissioned 1st Lieutenant and Regimental Quartermaster in the 29th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and was mustered in on July 1, 1861. He served in that duty until January 9, 1864, when he was discharged so he could be mustered in as a Captain and Assistant Quartermaster, Quartermaster's Department. United States Volunteers. He served through the end of the war, and was honorably discharged on November 11, 1865.
