Lucy J. Hurd Stagg was born April 13, 1839, in the state of New York near Saratoga Springs and died at Kirwin, Kansas, March 9, 1904, being 64 years, 10 months and 26 days old. At the age of seven years she moved with her parents to Wisconsin. In 1862 at Fox Lake, Wisconsin, she was married to James Stagg. In 1864 they moved to Moore County, Minnesota, and in 1872 to Missouri. In 1881 the family moved to Kirwin, and this has been their home ever since. Except for the last two years, their home was on the farm about four miles west of town. About two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Stagg moved into Kirwin, and this was their home at the time of her death.

Six children blessed their home, two of which, Mrs. Minnie Gray and Arthur Stagg, remain to mourn the loss of a mother and to comfort their father in his sorrow.

Mrs. Stagg had a host of friends in this community who will greatly miss her. The funeral was conducted from the home residence last Friday by Rev. J. E. Kirkpatrick. The remains were interred in the Kirwin Cemetery. The Kansan joins the other friends in extending sympathy to the bereaved family in this hour of sorrow.
