Word came to this office as we were going to press telling of the death of Grandma Riggle at the age of 76. Her sickness was very short. Her husband still survives her. They are numbered among the oldest pioneers of the county.

Harriet A. Borton was born near Quaker City , Ohio , January 21, 1828 , and died at her home west of Kirwin, Wednesday, March 4, 1914 , after a brief illness. She was united in marriage to Isaac W. Riggle, November 18, 1847, in Guernsey County, Ohio. To this union seven children were born, one of which died in infancy. She leaves a husband, two sons, John Riggle of Independence, Oregon, and William Riggle of Alsea , Oregon, and four daughters, Mrs. Matilda Allison of Wichita , Kansas , Mrs. Mary Escher of Beaver City , Nebraska , Mrs. Lydia Hostutler, of Cabool, Missouri, and Mrs. Sadie Cox of Kirwin, Kansas. Besides these there are twenty-seven grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren.

She also has two brothers, Baker Borton of Quaker City, Ohio, and Jessie Borton of Borton, Illinois, who are still living.

In 1865 her family moved to Iowa and to Kansas in 1878, which has since been their home.

When but 20 years of age she was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church of which she was a faithful member up to the time of her death.

The funeral was conducted from the Kirwin Methodist Chruch by Rev. Smith of Glade, assisted by Rev. Gordon Waggoner of the Kirwin Methodist Church . The interment was made in the Kirwin Cemetery.
