Roger Charles Reynolds, son of William and Nancy M. Reynolds, was born January 16, 1866, in Franklin County, Ohio, and a few years later his parents moved to Ludlow, Illinois. Possibly 15 years later they felt the urge to go west to make their future home.

It was in March 1882 when they arrived in Smith County, Kansas, where his home has been through the many years, some of which were lean and some of plenty.

He was united in marriage to Carrie M. Bartlett, February 24, 1892. To this union four children were born, Inez, Alvin, Elva, and Austin.

Charlie was a kind and loving husband and father, ever thoughtful for the comfort of his wife ad family. He was much interested in civic affairs and looked forward each day for his daily paper which he read with much interest.

Just as the sun was sinking in the west on the evening of December 20 his spirit took its flight to the God who gave it, at the ripe old age of 84 years, 11 months and four days.

The death angel came into the home and claimed the daughter Elva in 1915. This vacancy was filled by bringing into their lives and home two little girls, Eva and Neva, whom they loved and reared to womanhood.

Those of the family left to mourn the loss are his loving wife, Carrie and son Austin of the home, Inez of Great Bend, Alvin and wife of Cedar, and Eva and Neva of Colorado, also 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Besides the immediate family he leaves a sister, Mrs. Fanny Ruby of Stockton, one half-sister, Mrs. Estella Freeman of Kirwin, two half-brothers, G. E. Reynolds of Kirwin and John M. Reynolds of Topeka. Besides there are a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives as well as many friends.

“A cherished one from us has gone
A voice we loved is stilled
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.”

He was a member of the Methodist church in Kensington.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, December 23. A brief service at the home and the complete service at the Methodist church at 2:00 with Rev. F. M. McDonald and Rev. Lyle Miller in charge. Mrs. Gladys Davis and Kay Davis, Ted Seeman and Lawrence Kern, with Mrs. Earl Womer accompanist, sang the funeral hymns. Interment was made in the Kirwin Cemetery.
