Long-time former Kirwin resident, Maude Meckenstock, died Monday, July 3, at Hays Good Samaritan Center at the age of 95. She was born January 18, 1894, to Levi Gibbons and Campsy Bell (Davis) Hart in Laurel, Nebraska. The family moved to Kirwin in 1924 and Maude lived there until moving to Hays in 1981.
She married Otto Meckenstock in 1914 at Miltonvale; he died April 7, 1962. She was a member of the Kirwin United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Maude most recently was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hays.
Survivors include her son, Wilbur Emery "Mack" Meckenstock of Hays; a sister, Hazel McNeil of Peabody; four grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, at First Presbyterian Church, Hays, with the Rev. Bill Miller officiating. Burial with graveside services by Order of the Eastern Star will be at Mt. Allen Cemetery, Hays. Friends may call at Hays Memorial Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 7.
A memorial has been established to the First Presbyterian Church in hays.
Note: There is a discrepancy in where Maude is buried. She has a second memorial 23264661 at the Mt. Allen Cemetery in Hays, along with a grave marker. One is a cenotaph, but unknown which one.
