Ida May Smith was born in Polk County, Missouri, July 11, 1871. She attended school in Bolivar, Missouri, and grew to womanhood and married there. She married Luther Q. McMichael of Bolivar November 5, 1891, and moved to Rooks county, Kansas, where their first son, William Edgar, was born. They later moved to Kirwin, Kansas, where three sons, Lelan Omar, John Franklin and Roy Earl, and one daughter, Opha Ellen, were born. The daughter passed away at Kirwin January 10, 1917, at the age of 12 years.

She is survived by her four sons, William Edgar and Roy E. of Denver, Colorado; Lelan Omar of Salt Lake City Utah, and John Franklin of St. Louis, Missouri; four sisters, Mrs. Bertie Rector and Mrs. Anna Conn of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Mattie Ostrander of Englewood, Colorado, and Mrs. Jessie Orr of Woodston, Kansas; one brother, Charles Smith of Springfield, Missouri, and 13 grandchildren.

After her husband passed away April 30, 1923, she resided in Faribault, Minnesota, with her son, John, until August 1941 when she went to Denver, Colorado, to make her home with her two sons, William Edgar, 1516 Downing St. and Roy Earl, 1165 Columbine. She passed away at 11:25 a.m. Friday, March 21, 1947, after an illness of three years, at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 10 days.

L. Q. McMichael was born at Bolivar, Missouri, March 13, 1870, and died at Stockton, Kansas, Sunday morning, April 29, 1923, at the age of 53 years, 1 month and 16 days.

In November 1890 he was united in marriage to Ida May Smith at Bolivar, Missouri. To this union were born 5 children, four boys and 1 girl. The daughter, Opha, died in Kirwin January 10, 1917. The boys are all living and with their mother, sorrow at the departure of their loved one. The boys are Edgar at Morristown, Minnesota, Omar at Lacrosse, Kansas, John at Fanbault, Minnesota, and Roy at home. He is also survived by one grandson, Edgar Allen McMichael of Morristown, Minnesota.

Mr. and Mrs. McMichael and family moved to Kirwin in 1893 where they remained for 24 years when they moved to Stockton, Kansas, where they have since resided. Mr. McMichael worked for the New York Poultry Company for several years but in the last few years conducted a very successful egg and poultry business at Stockton.

He had not been in the best of health for some time and had been sick the last time for six weeks with hardening of the arteries and high blood pressure.

Funeral services were held in the Stockton M.E. Church conducted by Revs. Bridwell and McDonald. The remains were accompanied to Kirwin by relatives and members of the Modern Woodmen of America and deposited in the Kirwin cemetery. The Woodman ritualistic service was used at the grave.
