Wife of Lewis Hayes

Phillips County Review--June 7, 1945
Mell A. Sexton was born in Clarksville, Ohio, April 12, 1849, where she grew to young womanhood. In May 1878 she was married to Lewis Hays and moved to Kansas. She was a member of the Methodist Church and was always interested in its different branches of work, in which she was an active and willing worker until failing health and the burden of advancing years caused her to remain in her home. Mr. Hays passed away in 1916, leaving her alone. She enjoyed the company of her friends, many of whom were her faithful and regular visitors. She enjoyed unusually good health and an apt mind for most of her life until the past week when she was taken ill and suffered much until she fell asleep on Friday and quietly passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 96 years, one month and 15 days.

Graveside services were conducted by Rev. Wiles of Kirwin, and interment was made in the Kirwin cemetery.

Relatives attending the services were Eugene John of Kirwin; Mr. and Mrs. Harry John of Phillipsburg; Mr. and Mrs. Frantz John and Miss Jerry John of Hutchinson; and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Barron of Kensington.
