Mrs. Theresa, beloved wife of Geo. C. Lampe of this place passed away at the Sacred Heart hospital at Fort Madison, Thursday, December 14, 1916, at 4 a.m., aged 41 years, 1 month, and 23 days.
The news of Mrs. Lampe's death was a shock to the family's many friends in West Point. Mrs. Lampe had been ill for three weeks. She was removed to the hospital on Friday, December 8th and as a last resort she underwent an operation the following Sunday for complications of troubles. While it was known to be a serious operation, she rallied nicely and hopes for her recovery were held by her loved ones and friends. Wednesday she grew worse rapidly and the end came at the above time stated. She was conscious up to almost the last and gave full directions for her earthly affairs.
Deceased was the daughter of Conrad Schier and was born in Washington township near Fort Madison, October 21, 1875. For the past nineteen years she was a resident of West Point, coming here with her parents in 1897. In February 14, 1901 she was united in marriage to Geo. C. Lampe at St. Mary's church in West Point. She is survived by her husband and three children, Alfred aged 14, Loretta aged 12, and Georgina aged 7. Besides these she is also survived by her aged father Conrad Schier, one brother, B. H. Schier, and one sister, Mrs. Gus Lohman, all of West Point.
Death at all times is sad but in this instance it is more so as it robs the home of a kind, loving, and indulgent wife and mother. Her friends admired her kindly spirit and for her many acts of goodness. She was a member of St. Mary's church and also of the Rosary society.
The remains were brought to the home Friday morning and the funeral services were held at St. Mary's church Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock. Rev. Father Grothe officiated and gave a sermon which touched the hearts of all within hearing. The Rosary society attended in a body and many other relatives and friends were present, who followed the remains to their last resting in Calvary.
Those attending the funeral from a distance were; Mr. John Beaty of Kahoka, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Hay, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Merschman, Mrs. Ed Renolds, Mrs. Frank Holterhous, Mrs. Theresa Holterhous, Mrs. Herman Tuttenhuff, Mrs. Julius Reichelt, Miss Anna Schier, Miss Mayme Wilmesmeyer, Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Hellman, Steve Schroeder and Henry Schroeder of Fort Madison, Ed Reichelt and Mrs. James Carney of Wever. There were also a number from St. Paul.
