John Worth Cochran was the son of Thomas Worth Cockerham and Martha Jane Bailey.

The family moved to the Baines Mountain Community on East Alarka in Swain County just after 1890 from the Pumpkintown Community of Jackson County.

John Worth married Sarah Jane Barker, daughter of Merriman Micaja Barker and Dulcena "Dulcie" S Upton, on 28 Oct 1904 in Swain Co, NC. Their marriage was performed by: H.H. Hyde, Baptist Minister. Witnesses were: Laura Hyde & Ellen Hyde.

John and Sarah had 2-chldren:
1) Elsie "Elsa" Emma Cochran (1905-1971)
2) Lora M Cochran (1907-1995)

Sarah died 05 Mar 1908 at home in the East Alarka Community from Tuberculosis.

After the death of Sarah, John married her younger sister Ella Lucinda "Ellie" Barker on 18 Mar 1909 in Swain Co, NC. Their marriage was performed by: William Joseph McClanahan, Justice of the Peace at his home. Witnesses were: William Anderson McClanahan, Western W. Woody and T. Oliver.

John and Ella had 5-children:
1) Nettie Cochran (1909-1920)
2) Ethel Purgie Cochran (1910-1994)
3) Ernest Coleman Cochran (1912-1994)
4) Lewis Daniel Cochran (1914-1992)
5) Fred Cochran (1916-?)

John Worth Cochran died 21 Aug 1920 at home in the East Alarka Community as the result of tuberculosis.

He was 40-years of age.
