Byron D. "Tubby" Tubbs, 89, of Virginia Beach, and formerly of Elwood and Sebring, Fla., died Oct. 29. Born Nov. 11, 1911, in Elwood, he was the son of Oscar and Mae Tubbs. He graduated in 1930 from Elwood High School and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. He retired in 1974 from Delco-Remy and was a member of U.A.W. Local 662 and a life-member of the B.P.O.E. No. 368 of Elwood.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dolores R. (Hobbs) Tubbs; stepsons, Jack Kiphart of Greeley, Colo, and James Kiphart of Virginia Beach; six step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha Arbuckle of Elwood and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Cedric Tubbs and a foster daughter, Linda Simison.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Elwood City Cemetery with the Rev. Greg Wagner officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Dunnichay Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.
