Northend Plantation, Mathews County, Virginia, USA
Married by Rev. Reynolds
Died giving birth to her stillborn son.
Note: American Commercial Beacon and Norfolk & Portsmouth Daily Advertiser. Tuesday, February 18, 1823 (p. 2, c. 5): Departed this life, in the county of Matthews, on the 4th inst. Mrs. HESTER E. TABB, consort of Doct. Henry W. Tabb, aged 22 years. It is difficult to speak of the character of this interesting lady, without incurring the suspicion of those who did not know her, of indulging in extravagant panegyric. But those who did know her, will readily admit it to be difficult, if not impossible, to say what was her fault. We know that no mortal is perfect - perfection is an attribute of the Almighty only. But it does somtimes happen, though rarely, that in the lustre of many collected virtues, the specks of imperfection cannot be discerned by erring fellow beings. So it was with the subject of this notice. While her heart was the seat of every virtue, her genius adorned every thing it touched; and every thing yielded to its grasp. To a mind highly cultivated and enriched, were added a simplicity and elegance of manners, which delighted all who came within the sphere of their influence. But above all, her piety diffused a holy placidness around every act of her life, and around the last moments of her existence, that now affords the most ecstatic consolation to her afflicted friends, that she is a solicitor for them before the throne of mercy.
Tombstone inscription: HESTER VAN BIBBER TABB/ HESTER D ... (T)ABB/ Wife/ OF DOCTORE HEN (T)ABB/ AND ONLY (DAUGHTER)/ OF ANDREW AND SARAH VAN BIBBER/ Born 2d (?) 1800/ (Died) 4 Feb. 1823.
The stone was later moved to Ware Church in Gloucester Co. VA, the grave is in Mathews Co. VA. Was at the time, the Van Bibbers' home, "North End".
