Lucinda Abshier was the sixth of seven children born to Benjamin and Hannah (Weed) Abshier. She was married Sept. 6, 1839 in St. Landry parish, Louisiana to Caleb Higginbotham. When Lucinda died as a young woman in 1852, she was buried in what is now the Abshier Cemetery. She is widely considered to be the first burial in the cemetery.
