Johnny Earl Holden
John of Albuquerque, N.M., beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed from this life on Feburary 20, 2010. John was born on May 3, 1949, in Tahlequah, to Johnson and Anna Faye (Glory) Holden. Johnson was a full-blooded Chickasaw and Anna Faye was a full-blooded Cherokee. On February 26 a memorial service was held in Albuquerque.
John was preceded in death by both parents, and a nephew, Frank Brancroft. He is survived by his loving wife, Delores of the home and children Daniel Quintero and wife Jenifer and son Carlino "Punkin" Quintero-Nicasio; Michael Asmad Sanchez and wife, Michelle; daughter Knesha Madrid and husband Jason of Coweta, Oklahoma; daughter Neena Ackley of Minnesota; and daughter Seagar Condit and husband Carlos of Albuquerque. Grandchildren are; Nicaiso, Emilo, Micah, Matthew and Mya Sanchez; Jason and Cherish Madrid; Israel, Zion, Xaitia and Heaven Hart; Trisia, Brelynn and Talon Vaughn; and Own Condit. He aslo leaves behind two brothers; Ronald Joe Holden; and James Holden and his wife Glenda. Three sisters; Anita Duncan; Gloria Spybuck and husband Larry; Mary Louise Nordwall and husband Rick. In addition, he leaves a host of nieces and nephews.
Joh attended Muskogee High School, where he excelled in academics and sports. He was the first Indian athlete who , as a Freshman was a 3 sport letterman in football; basketball and baseball. His unrelenting love of sports lasted his lifetime, John was also a body builder, and an avid Denver Bronco fan and fiercely loyal to his Oklahoma Sooners. He attended Northeastern State University receiving a degree in Business Administration (Economics). He assisted various tribes throughout Indian Country in acquiring funds for displaced and disadvantaged. He worked in education and nearly twenty years for tibal housing in Arizona and New Mexico.
Cremation has taken place and a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 23 at the D.D. Etchieson Indian Methodist Church in Tahlequah located at 412 W. Seneca. Rev. Pat Freeman will direct the services. Lunch will follow at the church. Immediately after lunch, burial will take place at Tahlequah City Cemetery with a brief graveside service where his ashes will be placed on his mother's grave site.
