Earl Brayton Washburn died Monday, November 9, 1959 at his home in Gouverneur after an illness of over 12 years. He was the son of George and Julia Lachine Washburn and attended Gouverneur High school before entering the stonecutting trade which he followed for 30 years. He was also employed by Spooner and Campbell Auto dealers in Gouverneur and for 3 years was a hardware salesman at Ludlow Vermont. He retired in 1946 because of ill health.

He was survived by his wife, Luella Merithew who he married on September 11, 1909. Also surviving were two sons, three daughters, two sisters, one brother, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
