Son of Jim F. McKinney and Americas Adams, both born Fayetteville, Tennessee. Married Crystal Whitaker on March 6, 1920 in Madison County, Tennessee.

He was a merchant, 60 years old, married, and a resident of Henderson, Tennessee. Informant was Mrs. Crystal McKinney, Henderson, Tennessee; burial was July 28, 1936. Laurence Moffett, Henderson, Tennessee, was in charge of arrangements.

McKinney - Burl (b. 1876; d. 1936) was born in Purdy, McNairy County, He came to Henderson in the 1890s. A merchant and businessman, he and his brother, Guy, owned McKinney & Company, a men's clothing store located on Main Street for over thirty five years. Earlier Burl had a drug store and sold it in 1918. He owned the first automobile in Henderson. Her married Crystal May Whitaker (b. 1895; d. 1958) of Memphis, a stenographer at Cudahy Packing Company. Their many letters, all typewritten and still in existence, confirm their steady correspondence, besides Burl's visits to Memphis. They married March 6, 1920 in Jackson and resided at Hotel Woodward, then at Mrs. Horn's boarding house. They had one child, Joy Jean, born April 11, 1921. Burl contracted with Mr. Jess Harris to build a brick residence on Crook Avenue about 1928. Mrs. Cornelia Whitaker lived with them after Crystal's father died in 1935. Burl died of a cerebral hemorrhage in 1936. Their house reflected Crystal's artistic talents. She was a member of the Methodist Church, PTA, and helped organize the Garden Club. The rock entrance and landscaping at the Henderson Cemetery was due largely to her efforts. With others, she lobbied for Highway 100 to come through Henderson. In 1950, she moved to Knoxville to live with Joy and family. Joy graduated from CCHS in 1939, attended UT Knoxville, married William David Morgan, Jr (b, March 15, 1915) at Methodist Church in Henderson, June 15, 1943. Bill was a research chemist. They lived in Knoxville and later in Waverly. They have three sons; William McKinney (b. July 6, 1944); Frank Eugene (b, Feb 4, 1947); and Glenn Alan (b. July 22, 1954). All are graduates of UT Knoxville, all married and living in Oregon and California. In 1986 after Bill's retirement (with Foote Mineral Company 44 years) he and Joy moved to Medford, Oregon. They have one grandchild, Charles William (b. June 9, 1985).
