Louis James O'Brien 59 years old, 3435 Douglas Blvd., was killed and two fellow workmen were seriously injured when the stairs leading to the third floor porch of the building at 1021 South Ashland Avenue collapsed under the weight of a 500 pound Icebox when they were carrying it down the stairs.
The injured are William Ketzer 26 years old, 2044 North Lockwood Avenue, and Chester Hartercroft, 25 years old of La Grange. The three men who were in employed by Moving Company, were thrown to the ground when the stairway fell. Ketzer's injuries were regarded as critical.
Joseph Montana, an alleged bootlegger, who lives on the first floor, is owner of the building. The police announced they would make an investigation to determine whether the condition of the stairs was due to Negligence on Montana's part.
