MRS, W,D. WOODS
Mary Catherine Forsythe, daughter of Thomas and Rebecca Forsythe, was born near McConnelsville, Morgan County, Ohio, February 14, 1840, and passed away Friday morning, May 9, 1930, at her home in Beaver City, Nebr,, at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 25 days.
She grew to womanhood and spent a part of her earlier life in the state of Ohio. When she was about 37 years of age a group of nine wagon loads of people set their faces toward the west, journeying in covered wagons, and with this party she arrived in Nebraska in 1877. She settled in the Precept vicinity, having taken a homestead, where she lived for some years, when she removed closer to Beaver City. Here she lived for some years, with the exception of winters spent in a warmer climate, in what is known as the stone house south of town. About four years ago she moved to Beaver City where she with her husband have since made their home. She was one of six sisters, three of whom have preceded her in death.
She was united in marriage to William D. Woods, February 28, 1886, while she was still living in the Precept community.
She made a profession of faith and united with the church many years ago. For a long time she was a member of the Methodist Protestant church. Later she transferred her membership to the United Brethren church and since moving to Beaver City she was, until failing health prevented her, a regular attendant of the Presbyterian church.
She is survived by her husband, William D. Woods; two sisters, Mrs. M.J. Newton, of Stamford, Nebr., and Mrs. Nancy H. Buchannon, of Olymphia, Wash., and a large number of nephews and nieces and other relatives. She also has a large number of friends.
She was a woman of strong convictions, unfaltering faith, splendid loyalty to her husband, her friends, and her Lord and His church and we believe that she can rightfully claim the words of the Master, "Well done good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."
Funeral services were held at her late home in Beaver City, at 1 o'clock in charge of Rev. W.E. Dyvart, of the Presbyterian church and at the Bethel U.B. Church at 2:30 in charge of her pastor, Rev. A.H. Harnish. Interment was in the Deaver Cemetery.
