H. E. Hadsell, Printer Dies

Howard E. (Doc) Hadsell, 72, whose career as a printer totalled 52 years, died at 2:35 p. m. Tuesday in his home, 228 S. Kenilworth Ave., after an illness of one year.

Mr. Hadsell began his apprenticeship as a printer on the old Lima Gazette, later worked for the now defunct Lima Star and came to The News in 1929.

His 52-year career was interrupted only once when he attended chiropractic school in Fort Wayne from 1921 to 1924, and engaged in chiropractic practice there.

Hadsell later came back to the newspaper trade, and as a charter member of the Local 296, International Typographical Union, he served seven different terms as president.

He also is a member of the Shawnee Grange and Trinity Methodist Church, and was born March 21, 1884, in Shawnee Township, Allen County.

Survivors include his widow, Alta May; two sons, Harry F., Buffalo, N. Y., and Robert O., Circleville; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Emma Welch, Petersburg, Va., Mrs. Virginia Wheater, Kansas City, Kans.; Mrs. Jean Schroer, Thomasville, N. C., and Mrs. Betty Joyce, Fostoria; two brothers, Claude and Ray, both of Los Angeles, Calif., and 12 grandchildren.

The body will remain in the Chiles & Son Funeral Home where services will be at 2 p. m. Friday. Rev. Dr. J. Ira Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery.
