Mr. Wilt, who was a second lieutenant and finance officer and deputy commander of Senior, CAP, Miami County Composite Sqdn. 14100, died in the crash of his light plane August 5.
He was born April 3, 1928 at Lake Cormorant, Miss. to Harry and Bessie Mae Poley Wilt and lived nearly all his life in Osawatomie. He graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1946. He served as a staff sergeant with the U. S. Army Engineers in Korea and was awarded the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. After discharge, he worked as an electrician for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and the past 17 years had operated his motor, marine and salvage yard.
Novembe r 23, 1950 he was married to Billie Evelyn Dessert at Osawatomie and one son, Edward L.Wilt, Jr. was born to them. On June 4, 1958 he was married to Mrs. Roberta Louise Waddle Gonce at Lane, and a son, Robert Edward Wilt, was born to them.
Mr. Wilt was a member of the VFW Hanlin Kelly Post No. 2258, the American Legion John Hinkle Post No. 204, the BPOE No. 921, the Eagles Aerie No. 2673 of Paola, the Osage Valley Masonic Lodge No. 24 and the Order of Eastern Star No. 26. He was treasurer of the Miami County Flying Association and a special deputy sheriff for Miami County.
Surviving are his wife, two sons, three step-children, his mother, and one sister, Bessie Jean Hope.
Pallbearers were Don Warrick, Alfred Rockers, Buss Day, Robert Wilson, Clyde Rockers, William Avery, Olan Johnson and Jim Stainbrook.
