Robert "Red" Welch

SULPHUR — Robert Herman "Red" Welch, 84, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, in his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a lifelong resident of Southwest Louisiana and had lived in Sulphur since 1969. Red was a very comical person, and making people laugh was his passion. He was known to everyone in the area as the man who made his own sugar cane syrup and even designed the equipment to process the syrup. He was a member of Local 106 and was a 32nd-degree Mason.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Barbara Powers Welch of Sulphur; two sons, Robert Kurt Welch and wife Sara of Bangor, Mich., and Franklin Karl Welch of Sulphur; three daughters, Cynthia Kay Davidson and husband Steve, Donna Wray Duhon and husband Ronnie, and Connie Chaisson and husband Ronnie, all of Sulphur; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Annie Welch; four brothers, Benny B. Welch, Henry H. Welch, James G. Welch and Wilford Ray Welch; and one sister, Beulah Little.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. today, Feb. 17, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Lonnie Gothrup will officiate. Burial will be in Big Woods Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Darick Davidson, Brandon Hebert, James Hebert, Andrew Daniels, R.J. Chaisson and Luke McElveen. Honorary pallbearer will be Dylan Duhon. Visitation is from 8:30 a.m. today until the time of service in the funeral home.

My Dad (Red)was a man loved by everyone that meet him. He had a big generous heart, but it was his heart that failed him in the end. He died from a sticking valve that was caused from diabetes. Love you DAD.
