Serial Killer. Born to a Philippine father and a mother of Italian descent, Andrew was the last of four children, and treated with the most privileges, despite being from a high-middle class family. His father pinched pennies to let Andrew go to the prestigious Bishop's School in San Diego. Although he was openly gay in his high school, a time when AIDS was at an all-time high, he was not open with his parents, worried how they would take it with their religious beliefs. After graduating high school, he moved to San Francisco, started frequenting gay clubs and got into relationships with wealthy, older men in exchange for money and expensive gifts. In December 1995, he started a relationship with a future victim, David Madson, which lasted until the spring of 1996, with Madson saying that there was something "shady" about Cunanan. Later that same year, he started another relationship with another future victim, Jeff Trail. Trail, an Army veteran, was attracted to Cunanan because of how open he was about being gay. However, their relationship didn't last long as well. By April 1997, Cunanan was abusing drugs and alcohol, and frequenting gay leather bars. On April 27, 1997, Cunanan drove all the way to San Francisco to Minneapolis, the city where (coincidently), both Madson and Trail were living in. Trail was Andrew's first victim, with Madson being killed a few days later. He then went to Chicago, where he killed a 72-year-old real estate dealer named Lee Miglin. Although it is alleged that Cunanan and Miglin had been in a relationship, this has never been confirmed. He then stole his car to continue driving in his killing spree. However, this car had a cellular phone equipped with the car, which could give the FBI an idea where Cunanan where he was. On May 9, he went to Pennsville Township, New Jersey, where he killed a total stranger, William Reese, just so he could steal his 1995 red Chevrolet truck. Although authorities thought he was making his way to New York, Cunanan actually drove all the way to Miami Beach. On June 12, he was listed on the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. Although he was the 449th person to be added on the list, he was the first person from San Diego to be added on the list. On July 15th, Andrew Cunanan killed his last victim, the legendary fashion designer Gianni Versace. Multiple theories exists for his motive, including from a short relationship between the two, or just if Cunanan wanted to become infamous forever. Eight days later, after being discovered by a caretaker, Cunanan committed suicide to avoid arrest from the police. His cremated remains are interred in the mausoleum at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Diego. Andrew Cunanan has been portrayed a few times in film and television, the most recent being portrayed by actor Darren Criss in the second season of the FX anthology show called "American Crime Story," entitled "The Assassination of Gianni Versace."
