POWHATTAN --- George R. Killoren, 92, Powhattan, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Killoren started one of the first International Harvester farm implement dealerships in the area in Powhattan in the 1930s. He also farmed and raised livestock until he retired in the 1970s. He later wrote historical articles pertaining to the Powhattan area and its residents for the Hiawatha Daily Works and the Horton Headlight.
He was born June 6, 1909, in Powhattan, the son of George Martin and Martha Jane "Mattie" Barnett Killoren. He attended Powhattan schools and graduated from high school in Powhattan in 1929. He was a lifelong resident of the Powhattan area.
Mr. Killoren was a member of Powhattan United Methodist Church, a former member of the Delaware Mission Watershed Board and he was sexton of Powhattan Cemetery for more than 20 years.
He married Elsie McLaughlin on Feb. 27, 1935, in St. Joseph, Mo. She died Jan. 12, 1997.
Survivors include a son, Gene Killoren, Hiawatha; a sister, Marguerite Schuetz, Horton; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
