Jesse was born in Virginia around 1775. He followed his parents, Thomas and Sitchie Clevenger, to Cocke County, Tenn., where he married Jane Morrison. They raised their family in Cocke County before going to Missouri. Some of their children remained in Tennessee. Others moved to Missouri.
The inscription on his headstone tells about as much as known about his life: "JESSE, husband of Jane Clevenger. DIED Nov. 25, 1860. In the 85 Yr. of his age."
Jesse's daughter-in-law Mary (and likely his son Elias) is also buried in this abandoned cemetery.
Children of Jesse and Jane (Morrison) Clevenger were: Sarah, James, Charles (Archibald), Zachariah, Thomas, Elias, Elizabeth, Mary, Jesse Jr. and Nancy.
