James Dixon "Jimmy" McClellan was born October 20, 1885, in Snyder, Scurry County, Texas. He was a ranchman or better known as an "old cowpuncher". He had been a policeman and deputy constable. He stood 5 ft. 7 inches tall and had blue eyes, light hair and light complexion.

His Ranger comrades called him "Shorty". James Dixon McClellan enlisted in El Paso County as a Regular Ranger, March 12, 1918--Feb 21, 1919 (private, Co L). He resigned to enter the U.S. Immagration Service in Ysleta, El Paso County. He had signed up for the draft in September,1918, where he stated he had a bad right eye. On June 14, 1919, he applied for reenlistment in the Rangers.

In 1920, he was a foreman in the Union Stockyards in El Paso, El Paso County, Texas. His spouse's name was Clara May. His mother's name was Beulah and he had four siblings. James D. McClellan died June 15, 1952, Fabens, El Paso County, Texas. He was laid to rest in Restlawn Memorial Park in El Paso, El Paso County, Texas. (by Nancy E. Brown)
