John E. Strayer
SHIPPENSBURG - John E. Strayer, 81, of 104 Cleversburg Road, died at 5:40 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 1993, in Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Oct. 11, 1911, in Shippensburg, he was a son of the late David F. and Annabelle Eutzy Strayer.
He was retired from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg.
A graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, New London, Conn., he served in the Merchant Marine during World War II.
He was a member of Hub City Club and Minnequa Social Club.
His wife, Violet M. Lynch Strayer, died April 19, 1987.
Surviving are a daughter, Vivian Sprecher of Shippensburg; two grandchildren; a brother, Gerald of Shippensburg; two sisters, Bessie Pryor of Duncannon and Pearl Allen of Shippensburg; and a sister-in-law, Alice Lynch, who resided with him.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc. The Rev. Mercy M. Kasambira will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Franklin County Unit, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg 17201.
