He was employed as a teacher and coach for over 37 years at Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights, retiring in 2002. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Bay Head, where he was the vice president of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association, The National Basketball Coaches Association and volunteered with Ocean County Care Givers. He coached women's varsity softball and tennis and Men's varsity basketball and golf. In 1980, he was voted "Coach Of The Year" by the Daily News, the Newark Star Ledger, the Union County Coaches Association, and the Independent Press. He was the Union County Softball Coach Of The Year in 1999 and 2002, and the Union County Tennis Coach Of The Year in 1996. He was recently nominated for the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association Hall Of Fame.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Jackie M. Schaller Britt; two sons, Michael J. and Timothy E., both of Bay Head; and a daughter, Katherine A. Britt of Bay Head.
