Johnnie N. Daniels, 76, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010.
Service: 1 p.m. Saturday at Western Hills Baptist Church, 8500 Chapin Road, Fort Worth, preceded by a reception for the public in Fellowship Hall at noon. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth.
Memorials: American or Tarrant County Cancer Society .
Ms. Daniels was born in Fort Worth in 1933 and graduated from Tech High School in 1951. When in high school, Johnnie was a member of the ROTC majorettes and was voted homecoming queen. She was also the first runner-up in the first Ms. Fort Worth Pageant.
She worked for the city of Fort Worth, where she met her husband, Jack A. Daniels, also a city employee. They married in 1957 and had been happily married for over 30 years when Jack died in 1989.
Ms. Daniels was a singer, a painter and a loving mother and homemaker. She belonged to many groups, helping to plan Tech High reunions and gathering with the 42ers to eat and play each Thursday night. In past years, she sang with many groups, often entertaining at nursing homes. Johnnie sang on several local radio shows in the 1940s and was featured on programs at Panther Hall with stars such as Jim Reeves and Sonny James.
Ms. Daniels was a devoted Boy Scout leader; volunteer for the church youth group activities at Western Hills Baptist Church, where she and her family have been members since 1966; and a baseball and football mom.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.
Survivors: Sons, Randle C. Daniels and Troy L. Daniels, both of Fort Worth; granddaughter, Austyn Daniels of Fort Worth; nephews and nieces, Adina Martin, Joe Bob Russell, Doyle Russell, Lana Newman, Lloyd Harper, Donna Harper, Trilla Jean Markham, Billie Thomas and Joyce Miller; and many grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
