I am the Great Great Granddaughter of Harriet Elizabeth Taylor Smith through her first son William Joseph Smith (1852) and his wife Mary Elizabeth Gilstrap.
She was part Cherokee through her mother Anna Childress Taylor, wife of William Taylor buried at Liberty Baptist Church Dawson County Georgia. Anna Childress Taylor lived among the Cherokee and spoke the language. Many of the same Childress family members went on the trail.(source: Cherokee Applications of Childress/Hubbard Family)
She married Thomas Harrison Smith in Lumpkin Co Ga on April 12, 1849.He arrived in Georgia in 1846 from SC. She always lived near her Taylor family members in Dawson County once Lumpkin.
Their daughter Margaret Jane Evaline married George Ahymus Ledbetter of Dawson County.
Their son Emmaziah J. married Rosetta Elliot of Cherokee Co Ga.
Their daughter Texas Havannah married George Washington Bailey of Dawson County and is buried next to Harriet and Thomas Harrison, at Ophir.No inscriptions are on the tall flat headstones of Thomas and Harriet.They were members of this church.
Their daughter Coloma Sarah married Barney F. Elliot of Forsyth Co.
Their daughter Roxanna married Oliver Marion Hill.
Son Marion Lee married Pearlie Slaton of Dawson County. America Thomas, Eldorado Frances, Alice Mary never married. Columbus died as an infant.
