Benaiah Gustin Jayne was born July 30, 1790, in Northampton, Pennsylvania, the son of John and Cornelia (Decker) Jayne. He married Mary B. Whitaker on July 18, 1818, at Sanford, New York, the daughter of John Whitaker and Catherine Weaver.
Benaiah and Mary were the parents of nine children, John Whitaker, Squire Whitaker, William H., Henry Decker, Rhoda Case, Justus Frank, Benaiah Gustin Jr., Catherine Cornelia and Emily Ogden Jayne.
