The death of Mr. A. J. Grove occurred at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. George S. Brower, near Madrid, on Thursday of last week, after quite a long illness of a complication of diseases, augmented by encroachments of age. He would have reached his 76th year October 21.
Mr. Grove was the son of Abraham Grove and was born and reared near Ladd, in this county. In early life, he married Miss Bettie a. Wine, of Long Meadows, who survives him, and in 1878 went to Illinois where he lived 25 years, afterward removing to Benton Harbor, Mich. where he lived until a little over two years ago when he and his wife, both getting up in years, decided to return to the country that gave them birth and spend their latter days. Since then they have made their home with their son-in-law, Mr. Brower. On the 21st of February 1917, they celebrated their golden wedding, having been wedded fifty years.
Mr. Grove is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Chester Schultz, of Bozeman, Mont.; Mrs. Perry Rodes, of Danforth, Ill.; Mrs. R. S. Burkholder, of Long Meadows and Mrs. George S. Brower, of near Madrid. One daughter, Miss Lena Grove, died July 8, 1911. He is also survived by three brothers and one sister: Mr. Martin Grove, of Oklahoma; Mr. John Grove, of near Ladd; Mr. Jake Grove, of Mt. Meridian and Mrs. Ann Garber, of near New Hope.
The funeral and interment was at Barren Ridge, Church of the Brethren, of which denomination Mr. Grove was a faithful and consistent member. The service was conducted by Rev. C. E. Long.
