The eldest son of William Addison and Mary Elizabeth (Dobyns) Donnell grew up in Greensburg, IN to which place his parents had moved from the rural Clarksburg neighborhood. He graduated from Greensburg High School and the KY Agricultural and Mechanical College of Lexington, KY prior to his marriage in 1888 to Ollie O. Rogers. His obituary follows:

"The many relatives and friends of Edwin Dobyns Donnell, 73, former well known Greensburg newspaper man, were shocked early today when they heard of his passing away at an early hour in the Methodist hospital. He had not been well for several dayts and was taken to the hospital Tuesday for anb operation for obstruction of the bowels. Death followed.

"The deceased was a son of William Addison and Mary Elizabeth Dobyns Donnell and was born in Clarksburg, Nov. 11, 1861. His parents came to Greensburg in 1865 and he spent a great portion of his life here. He learned the newspaper business here in the New Era office which his father owned from 1878 to 1885. His father died in 1891.

"In the late 70's and early 80's the 'Donnell Family' gave concerts all over the country and was quite popular. The father, two sons, Ed and Cliff, and daughter, Ada, were all excellent musicians. The brothers were also prominent in the old Greensburg Band, of which Ed D. was the leader. He was director of the choirs in the Christian and Presbyterian churches for several years.

"Leaving Greensburg about 1889, Mr. Donnell was editor of the Greeley (Colo.) Sun for a few years, returning to Greensburg about 1893 and was part owner of the Greensburg Review. About 25 years ago he located in Indianapolis where he was state printer several years and for the past several years had held a responsible position with W. B. Burford Company. For 55 years he was active in the printing and publishing business.He was a member of the Christian church, a K. of P. and a Scottish Rite Mason.

"He married Miss Ollie O. Rogers here Feb. 22, 18889. She and a son, Dr. Clifton E. Donnell, of Indianapolis, survive. His brother, Clifton, died several years ago, also his sister, Mrs. John (Ada) Batterton, and his mother are deceased.

"Funeral services will be held in the home at 5372 East Washington street at 1 p.m. Saturday. the burial will be in South Park cemetery here about 3:30 p.m. The casket will be opened at the grave for a short service."
