He married Sarah Ann Crump in Henrico County on 20 December 1847. They had at least seven children: Sarah M., Robert Chamberlayne, Mary F., Henry Thomas, Kate Leland, Lula G. and Annie W. He married Laura Brackett in Henrico County on 7 October 1896.
He is buried near his wives in the plot he owned.
