Mamie Ellen Galey died on the evening of Sept. 23, 1898. She was the infant daughter of J.E. and Eliza Gailey, aged 5 years, two months and 19 days. She was born July 4, 1893 in Hillsboro and moved to Decatur with her family in the summer of 1898. She died after being afflicted with diphtheria and suffering a short illness.
Little Mamie Ellen was a sweet good child, loved by all her relatives, and almost idolized by her parents, sisters and brother.
