Born near Circleville, Pendleton County, Virginia (now West Virginia). Son of Miles & Elizabeth (Vandevender) Helmick. Civil War veteran, served first half of the war for the CSA, & the latter half for the USA.

Married Anna Catherine Mullenax, daughter of Salathiel & Mary Margaret (Mullenax) Mullenax, on 19 September 1861, in Pendleton County, Virginia. Abraham & Anna Catherine had 2 more children not listed below: Miles, born in Pendleton County, Virginia (now West Virginia), died in infancy, & Mary, died in infancy, buried in White Oak Flats, near Holly Meadows, Tucker County, West Virginia.

Married Prudence Ware, daughter of William Madison & Lucinda Lucille (Wamsley) Ware, on 7 June 1877, in Tucker County, West Virginia.

Married Ida Emma Corrine Knapp, daughter of Robert Waugh & Mary Blake (Wooddell) Knapp, on 28 August 1889, in Tucker County, West Virginia.

Note: Abraham was originally buried on his farm in Sugarlands, Tucker County, West Virginia. In September of 1965 his remains were moved to the Sugarlands Brethren Church Cemetery.
