THE TAMPA TRIBUNE (TAMPA, FLORIDA) 12/1/1944

MISSING, ARCADIA, Nov. 30. ---(Special)---News was received here by Mr. and Mrs. D.A. Welch that their son, 1st. Lt. Alton Welch, 21, was missing in action in Italy. Welch is pilot on a fighter plane. He is the youngest five Welch brothers and has two older brothers, also in the army. He is a graduate of DeSoto County High School.

NEWS-PRESS(FORT MYERS, FLORIDA) 11/29/1944

1st. Lt. D.A. Welch, who served with the 48th fighter squadron, was killed in action Nov. 17, over Italy, according to word received by his brother, "Happy" Welch.
