Armstrong was a native of Alabama. He came to Texas at an early age and was a farmer.

Survived by three sons - J.W. Armstrong of Olney; W.F. Armstrong of Dumont, J.C. Armstrong of Paducah, one daughter - Mrs. W.H. Beavers of Holliday; one brother - Isaac Armstrong of Atoka, OK, three sisters - Mrs. Susan Malone of Cleburne, Mrs. Nancy Maharin of Oak Cliff, Mrs. Sarah Pledger of Mabank; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
