Sudden Death of Joseph Baumeister One of the Best Known German residents of the City
Joseph Baumeister, one of the oldest and best known German residents of this city, died very suddenly yesterday afternoon at Rutherford, N.J., while on a visit to his daughter, Mrs. Schanz.
Mr. Baumeister was 78 years of age and resided at 1023 North Irving avenue, but notwithstanding that he had passed the allotted span of life, enjoyed excellent health. On October 1 he went to Rutherford and yesterday morning a letter was received from him by his son, Mr. William Baumeister of Chittenden's Pharmacy, stating he had enjoyed his visit and would return to Scranton in a few days.
The news of his death caused quite a shock to his many friends, He was for many years employed at the Lackawanna car shops, where he was very popular with his fellow workmen.
He is survived by the following children: Joseph F., his Sanderson's pharmacy; William, of Chittenden's Pharmacy; Mrs. Schanz, of Rutherford; Mrs. H.J. Spruks, Mrs. Harris Brock; Mrs. P. Ean, Minnie and Annie, all of this city.
